Galls, Diseases, and Pests - Aphids : Other Aphids
Tiny parasitic wasps often lay an egg inside an aphid. After the egg hatches, it basically eats the aphid from the inside. But that's not all! It also secretes chemicals to turn the soft aphid into a hard shell. After the wasp larva's development is complete, it cuts a door into the shell and climbs out. You can see the "door" offset a little on top of the aphid "case."
